13th Pediatric Anesthesia Day in Magdeburg

“The child from head to toe” in the focus of modern medicine

On Saturday, January 17, 2025, Magdeburg was all about child-friendly medicine: The 13th Magdeburg Pediatric Anesthesia Day brought together experts from various disciplines of pediatric medicine to discuss current developments, challenges, and innovative concepts.

The day kicked off in the morning with two practical workshops. In the workshop “Simulation of Pediatric Emergencies,” participants practiced realistic emergency scenarios, while in the parallel workshop “Sonography in Children,” experienced tutors guided participants in practicing ultrasound examinations of vessels and nerves in children using models.

Dr. Selinde Mertz and Dr. Christoph Keil, senior physicians at the University Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in Magdeburg, were responsible for the scientific management of the event. The official welcome was given by the president of the Saxony-Anhalt Medical Association, Prof. Dr. Uwe Ebmeyer.

Under the theme “The child from head to toe,” the lecture program offered a comprehensive overview of the diversity and complexity of pediatric anesthesia. Topics covered included craniosynostosis, congenital heart defects, special pediatric surgical findings in the abdominal cavity, and modern pain management concepts with a focus on regional anesthesia.

Another focus was on communication with children and their parents, as well as innovative strategies for anxiety-free pediatric anesthesia. Practical relevance, high professional quality, and intensive interdisciplinary exchange characterized the event and once again made the Pediatric Anesthesia Day an important forum for the specialized care of young patients.

Following the successful event, the organizers are already looking ahead and looking forward to another exciting Pediatric Anesthesia Day, which is planned for January 9, 2027.
